Planning a wedding and unsure of the cost? Well, I don’t know it all… but thankfully I have lots of past clients and friends who have gotten married here in Des Moines, and shared some advice on how they budgeted for their weddings. Read on for advice from some wonderful humans, with a few of my thoughts as a professional photographer at the end.

This day was SO HOT but you’d not know it from the photos!! Regan, Grant, and their whole crew were troopers and we had a wonderful August wedding day in Pella at Sun Valley Barn!
Alex and Chuck have been together for many years, and decided that it was time to celebrate their relationship with a wedding and stepping into marriage! After a year of planning, this day came together like only a dream could. Summertime sprinkles of rain showered the couple with love, and they vowed yes to forever on the outdoor patio of Cedar Ridge Winery. Such a beautiful wedding day!

I love capturing wedding days in central Iowa, and Prairie Moon Winery is one of the best hidden venues in the area! Just outside of Ames, it’s a stunning space and it was a joy to photograph Ada and James’ wedding here in August!
This wedding day was absolutely lovely, from start to finish! Logan and Hailey bring out the best in each other, and their marriage started on a beautiful spring day in Norwalk, Iowa… click through to see more!

Heather and Clinton’s wedding day also took place in Sioux City, Iowa and Nebraska this past weekend. June is such a wild card month, with torrential rain storms and hot sunny days. Thankfully, their wedding day was the latter and honestly, just gorgeous for an early summer wedding! The sun rose early and stuck around through the reception, shining down love on the newlyweds.
Spring in Iowa can be unpredictable as a toddler. 2019 has been no exception! Even though Savannah & Harrison got married just about an hour outside of Des Moines, and halfway through May, I actually wore a sweater to their wedding. Crazy! Regardless, a little cloud cover had nothing on the bright ball of energy these two bring to the table. They’re going to take this world by storm and I just can’t wait to watch what they do together!
As an Iowa wedding photographer, I’ve photographed over 50 midwestern weddings and attended 20-30 more! However, I’ve only been in a bridal party a few times in my life. Two years ago, my best friend got married and I had the honor of standing up with her as one of her maids-of-honors. It was a wonderful day, and I also learned quite a bit! Here are a few lessons from my day in Erin’s wedding.
