Time spent with friends is never wasted. Time spent with friends, taking photos and making memories, in downtown Kansas City!? Well, that’s time gained!!! I had a blast with Michael and Abbey, romping around in glorious November sunshine in the Crossroads District in KCMO. Check out the blog post for more photos of this cute couple!!

Anniversary Portraits
I joyfully spent an hour on a warm, sunny Sunday afternoon with these two. They made my job SO EASY!!!! I sure hope that someday, Mary and Bobby look back on these photos and remember the simple and tenderness of this season— just them (and their doggo!) making a life together in their first apartment. I smile looking at each one of these, and I hope they bring you joy as well!
Intimate and romantic photos take the cake for “best kind of shoot”. Even better? Doing them spontaneously at home! Amelia and Kurtis live above the city skyline, with a perfect view of sunset. After taking photos for her small business (check out Amelia’s art!!!) Kurtis joined us on their patio for an unprompted “anniversary” session of sorts. 18 months almost of marriage, which is just as valid to celebrate! Click the blog link to see more.
You may remember my recent post of Naomi and James’ one year anniversary photos. It was a unique photo session, because we did them in their apartment! Such a fun afternoon of coffee & records & documenting the space they’ve turned into a home, in a little suburb of Omaha.
Have you ever wished you didn’t have to move out of your first apartment? Well, I can’t help you with that— but I can help you remember just a little bit of how it felt to live there! I offer in-home sessions (for those in homes, apartments, or just about anywhere!) for anyone looking to hold on a little longer to a space. Naomi and James have lived in this sweet one-bedroom apartment for a year, and it was a joy to photograph them living life together on random Wednesday afternoon.
Casey and Alycia won my summer giveaway last year— which meant that we got to hang out one evening in late October, and take some beautiful fall pictures! I met Alycia through a mutual friend back when she was in undergrad school at UNI, and when I was at Hawkeye for photography. They were looking for an engagement photographer, and I just happened to be available. ;)
Spontaneous, "just for fun" anniversary-style photos are obviously the best kind. Especially when they happen on the most gorgeous of evenings, in front of thousands of cherry blossoms in a Des Moines park! That's exactly what this session was. Emily and Parker hadn't had any professional photos taken since their engagement photos & wedding pictures four years ago in Wyoming. Three years ago --one year into marriage!-- they moved to Iowa. That was when our paths crossed, and my life was changed for the better.
It's been two years since these two got married, and they will be leaving Ames and moving to St. Louis this month for Brennan's job. To commemorate their time in Ames, they asked me to photograph some anniversary photos! And we had the perfect evening to shoot...
Des Moines is such a gorgeous city, and springtime might just be the peak of that beauty. If you've ever been to WaterWorks Park in Des Moines, you'll agree with me! The cherry blossoms on the trees make it seem as if you're living out a fairytale. (Or, maybe walking through a perfume factory?!) I love shooting weddings and engagements in Des Moines, which will be definitley happening this summer. However, this was an anniversary session!
My time with these two was short and sweet—but full of fun and sass! If you're married and don't have kids yet (or do!), an anniversary session is the perfect way to have a memorable date night. Get dressed up, and kiss a lot…what else could be better?! ;) Plus, you'll cherish photos that document your love as it grows and deepens. If you're looking for something fun to celebrate around your anniversary (or any other time), consider this for your next date night!
Rachel wanted a few new headshots, so we snuck those in on the end—opting for the bright pink trees! I love how they turned out. :) Here are two of my favorites!
Rachel has been nothing but a joy and encouragement since I met her! Fun fact: she actually second shot my first wedding with me. Then, she asked me to shot her wedding (so intimidating! but SO FUN!) and now, a little over a year later, their first anniversary session. We had the most beautiful October evening…also, I love shooting in Des Moines. All you Des Moinesians out there: hit me up!
