Doing sessions in other people’s homes can be a challenge for many reasons. On the client’s side, they may feel pressure to have the full home cleaned and tidy, on top of being photo ready themselves. On the photographer’s side, it can be stressful coming into a situation where I have less control over lighting than an outdoor or studio session. But the one time I will ALWAYS say “let’s do it at your home!” is for newborn photography. It’s just generally easier for mom, who is newly adjusting to her postpartum body and life.
It’s easier to sit on your couch or enjoy your garden while holding baby, instead of having to prepare and pack up with a brand new itty bitty baby and wonder if you have enough diapers, formula, etc. for an hour or two out of the home. Plus, we aren’t rushed due to heat or cold or a scheduled studio time, and if baby needs a quick feeding or diaper change, everything is easily accessible. We often do newborn photos within in the first week or so after birth, so it’s just simpler on everyone!
Millie is a cutie, and clearly so loved. Her parents slaved over her ADORABLE nursery, and I loved the stunning natural light in their home. Millie wanted to check out my camera, which was fun to see her cute concerned eyes. :) I am so glad that her parents found me, and hope to be back in a year to snap photos of this sweetie again!
