I love nothing more than a sweet lifestyle session in an early 1900s apartment! Clara and Eva called this space home for a year while living together, and it was so special to capture them (and cat Puddin’) in this gorgeous Sherman Hill building. I’m a huge fan of headshot photography! I think that it’s important to update your online profiles ever few years, and so I loved that Puma reached out to me when she needed some new photos. We snagged a studio space downtown Des Moines, and had a wonderful time chatting, laughing and making some camera magic happen!

After seeing a few local ‘togs share their FaceTime quarantine sessions, I decided to give it a shot! My best friend and her husband were my first test subjects and it was SO FUN. Leading up to the session, I felt more nerves than I have in months or years prior to a shoot. However, as soon as we got on the call, I was in the zone. This FaceTime photo shoot brought me more joy and focus than anything else has this past month! It felt good to be posing and editing images. Plus, I got to hang out with my friends and see their super cute house. :)
I am committed to discovering new spaces and hidden gem locations in central Iowa for each of my seniors. Whether you pick to shoot photos in downtown des moines, or the middle of a cornfield, you can bet that we’ll make some magical senior portraits for your Instagram feed! These springtime senior photos of Miranda are some old favorites of mine, and I’m eagerly anticipating the spring blooms we’ll see here in Des Moines soon enough.
Sophia and I met two & a half years ago at Iowa State. She was a freshman, walking through so many life changes and adventures! We met up a few times to talk, but our paths didn’t cross as much the following year. Now that I’m running my photography business in Des Moines, instead of Ames, our paths never cross. Until last week! Sophia decided to take me up on my mentoring sessions, and the Lord gave us a perfectly beautiful day!
This year has been full of so many incredible sessions. From engagement sessions all over the state, to some of the best senior girls ever, I’m in awe when I look back on this past year! To every family who has hired me for photos, every senior girl who trusted me with her session, and friends who have hired me for anniversary shoots— thank you. THANK YOU! It is such a joy to watch your lives develop, your families grow, and love get sweeter through the years.
I’ve long wanted to be a photographer in a styled shoot. When I met Lynda this fall, we started talking about the idea of collaborating. Autumn was super busy for me— half the time I wondered if I’d ever catch up on sleep! But I made it to November, and Lynda pulled together a great group of Des Moines area wedding vendors to style a shoot on a Sunday afternoon. It was chilly and grey outside, but inside the barn venue we warmed up with French-inspired snacks and wine and laughter.

Living in landlocked Iowa, it isn't often that I get to photograph a portrait session on the beach. Photographing Serene for her forthcoming EP release, on a beach, in NOVEMBER no less, was magical! Summertime always flies by too quickly! This year, being in Ames allowed me to enjoy a slightly slower pace of summer (at times) and also take a lot more photos. My sister came to town and we decided to see Wonder Woman (SO GOOD YOU GUYS)—but beforehand, I stopped by a local field to take some photos with her. Ya know, gotta make those summer sister memories! ;) Also, don't you love that Drew Holcomb & The Neighbors shirt?! I'm maybe obsessed with that band (and Ellie Holcomb.)
