Extended family photo sessions mean so much to me. Perhaps it’s because outside of a quick photo snap every 10 or so years, I never had this sort of experience with my cousins and grandparents. (Part of that being, I’m one of the youngest, and everyone lives in separate cities & states). That said, I understand the difficulty in gathering everyone together for a meal or activity, let alone a session where you have to dress up and be in good moods!! I have had the pleasure of capturing many family groups in Des Moines, whether they all live here, or most traveled in to see others. Taking your extended family pictures in DSM is a great idea, because parking is relatively easy, we get seasons and various weather (so you can choose!) and there are also so many studios if you prefer indoor photos!
The T family grew up in Minnesota, but for a season 2 of their adult kids were living in Des Moines. With 4 rapidly growing grandkids, they wanted to update photos together when in town for a weekend of Iowa State Fall football!! I chose one of my favorite parks for a morning session, and we pushed past the chill and dew, and had a lot of fun capturing photos together before the rest of their weekend together. I know these photos will be on the wall and fridge for years, and that in a short enough time, we’ll have to update them again!
