Summer evenings- when the sun sets late, the birds and cicadas provide a music (no batteries needed!) and …we can just pretend that bugs don’t exist for this moment in time. ;) Family photos in summertime are my favorite- colorful flowers and grass, blue skies, and the promise of ice cream on the way home!

Summer as a child is the most magical of times! Long days at the community pool, catching fireflies and eating s’mores… I wish I could go back to the late 90’s for one more summertime. ;) This is a modern family living in a current reality, but I think these kids are still getting to experience summer in all its glory!
This sweet family transplanted to Iowa, and it was so fun to connect with them to update their family photos. Kids grow up so fast… so make sure you remember to capture the moments while they’re happening!
Spring Mini-Sessions are a go! Click the link to read more info, and head to the Contact page to email me. :)
I will probably pull back on photographing families in 2022… but after seeing sweet photos like this, maybe I won’t! Leave your vote in a comment if I should do family pictures in the upcoming year. ;)
Just posting these photos 9 months later or so… haha oops!!
What’s better than family photos? Family photos in the fall, when the leaves have just turned brilliantly, but still hang on to their homey branches. I loved photographing the Ha family this autumn, and think you’ll love meeting them in this blog post, too.
My sweet friend Rachel asked me this summer about my availability to photograph her family after the arrival of her first child, Evy. I was, of course, over the moon! In-home family photos take the cake for just about anything… especially during winter. ;) Click the post title to see more sweet newborn photos!
This sweet family was the very first to hire me for family photos way back when I first arrived in Ames for college! Erin found me on Google, and the rest was history. Ben was a newborn (literally like 3 months old!) and I did a mini-session the next fall, when he was about 1. But other than a random grocery store run in, I don’t think we’d crossed paths since then!
It has taken me a long time to finally get around to blogging some of my sweet fall family mini-session photos! I love meeting the Hornberg fam—the two girls gave me a run for my money, but we had a blast chasing each other around in the grass. There are so many family photographers in the Des Moines and Ames area… it really was a treat to be chosen by mom Katie, to update the family photos! I can’t wait to see these sweet girls grow up over the years.
Family photos tell the story of what bonds a specific cluster of humans, and who they are together. We don't take family photos for today, we take them for the future. They will be passed on, and remembered, for years to come! Personally, I love looking at family photos from my childhood! They help me reminisce (or wish I could) on the places we've been, the people we were, and simple things... like what I loved as a kid. (My purple corduroy overalls and matching hat, if you were wondering.) So, it was a true joy for me to drive from Des Moines to Cedar Falls to take family pictures for our neighbor family earlier in July!
This sweet family has allowed me to photograph them for years now! It's been so fun to watch Emma grow from a slightly-bald baby to a walking, dancing, talking, question-asking three year old! She even held my hand for a little bit during their photo session... totally melted my heart. <3 And she also showed off her cool dance moves (seriously, she's got me beat!) and her pretty new nail polish. This little lady sure knows how to be cool!
I got to hang out with David & Ashley last Friday morning (way earlier than I am normally up, honestly!). But the light was gorgeous--especially after days of clouds and rain--and we were on a mission... to snag some 6 month photos of Lily before she crashed and took a nap. I love hanging with these friends on a pretty regular basis, and sneak baby snuggles any chance I get, but this was the first time I'd photographed Lily since she was born!
These photos were taken on a super windy and chilly October day in Iowa. The whole Hansen crew managed so well, and Isla even slept through part of our photo session! We had to get some natural light photos (of course) and even snuck into the nursery Scott's mom has made up for Isla.
