Summer evenings- when the sun sets late, the birds and cicadas provide a music (no batteries needed!) and …we can just pretend that bugs don’t exist for this moment in time. ;) Family photos in summertime are my favorite- colorful flowers and grass, blue skies, and the promise of ice cream on the way home!
Summer as a child is the most magical of times! Long days at the community pool, catching fireflies and eating s’mores… I wish I could go back to the late 90’s for one more summertime. ;) This is a modern family living in a current reality, but I think these kids are still getting to experience summer in all its glory!
Baby Jordan and I share a birthday, which made meeting him all the more special! He was so alert (and quiet!) for most of our session, until he finally decided to nap at the end. ;)
This sweet family transplanted to Iowa, and it was so fun to connect with them to update their family photos. Kids grow up so fast… so make sure you remember to capture the moments while they’re happening!
I will probably pull back on photographing families in 2022… but after seeing sweet photos like this, maybe I won’t! Leave your vote in a comment if I should do family pictures in the upcoming year. ;)

My sweet friend Rachel asked me this summer about my availability to photograph her family after the arrival of her first child, Evy. I was, of course, over the moon! Spring is the perfect time to catch up on family photos. Not only are the kiddos thrilled to be able to run & play outside after a long winter, but the weather feels warm and the green tones refresh the soul! I had the pleasure of photographing some of the most energetic and excited children in Des Moines last week. These siblings love each other, obsess over their newest baby brother, and made a quick friend of me!
This fall, I did my first-ever Fall Mini-Session weekend. And it was CRAZY!!! I actually had to add time slots, which blew my mind. It was the perfect welcome to living and being a family photographer in Des Moines! The day of my mini sessions in Des Moines, it was cool and cloudy, perfect weather for fall photos. I had the best time meeting some new families, and playing with the cutest kids!

I offer in-home sessions (for those in homes, apartments, or just about anywhere!) for anyone looking to hold on a little longer to a space. Naomi and James have lived in this sweet one-bedroom apartment for a year, and it was a joy to photograph them living life together on random Wednesday afternoon.
When the Felkins family asked me to photograph their family, I was thrilled! I've known the twin girls, Sam and Alex, for a few years now and had come into contact with the rest of the family briefly over time. Michael is a pastor at a local church, and he's also officiated quite a few of the weddings that I've photographed! We started off their family photo session in their backyard. It's always special to photograph people in "their" space. Plus, that meant dog Tex could join in on the fun! He was a fan of the love, as you'll soon see.
This family has been a true gift to ours. They moved in next door about 5 years ago (I think?) and it's been the best thing that has happened to our neighborhood! The kids bring so much life and laughter, and almost every time I visit home, we hang out.
